Your Inside Guide to South Boston

Perry Recommends:
Southie

South Boston is rich in history and tradition. The first victory in the Revolutionary War came here at Dorchester heights (now known as Thomas Park named after General John Thomas). Since then sons and daughters of this neighborhood have defended our country countless times and often with the supreme sacrifice, their lives. Our parks and vast beaches are a constant reminder of our ancestors and relatives valor in combat.

We have the greatest St. Patrick's Day Parade in the world, which signifies our own special holiday. Hundreds of thousands of people flock to the town every year to celebrate and lay claim that at least for one day that they too "Are from Southie, and have at least a bit of Irish in them". Southie is the capital of the world on this day.

Politicians from the town have played a significant role in local, national, and international arenas for decades; names like McCormack, Moakley, and the former Senate President William Bulger are all sons of South Boston...We even had  a Cardinal, Richard Cushing, who as a boy worked up at the corner pharmacy (Healey Square General Store) from my house.

With our proximity to downtown and with a Seaport district blooming with development, Southie has become the place to live in Boston. Box office blockbusters like the Departed, Mystic River, and Good Will Hunting have opened the door for professionals of all ages to flock here in search of housing.

Besides Castle Island, one of the towns biggest attractions is Amrheins Restaurant on West Broadway. This Southie landmark has been in business since 1890, and has been run by Steve Mulrey and his family since 1964. Speaking of restaurants, Mirisola's on L and Eighth Streets is simply spectacular. Their authentic Italian cuisine is cooked to order and will save you the hassle of venturing into the North End. When you're on K Street, don't forget to stop at Millers Market,"Coldest beer in town". Movie buffs will revel in the fact that Millers was the scene of Sean Penn's "Cottage Market" in Mystic River.  This corner store is a Southie institution and is run by the Noto family, who happen to be the nicest people you will ever meet. Yes, they did pay me to say this!  Attached are some other South Boston establishments that I highly recommend. I want to apologize to the L Street Brownies, but I can't truthfully tell anyone moving here that jumping in the water at Carson Beach on New Years Day is a good idea! Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have regarding South Boston real estate.

Sincerely,
